Let me start off by saying that you’re better off preventing a tension headache by reducing the amount of stress you have (it can be done), improving your stress management (it can also be done), and reducing the physical strain on the head, neck, and face muscles most likely to cause a tension headache. But sometimes it’s really hard. Sometimes you have the best of intentions if only life would stop getting in the way; and then sometimes life throws you an unexpected curve ball.
If you’re not inclined toward or don’t know where to start with any of those long term solutions, or if you have a temporary upswing in your stress level, here are a few essential oils you can diffuse to help keep a stress or tension headache at bay:
I’m guessing that this is the real reason you’re reading this… You want to know how to get rid of your headaches. The simple answer to “How do I get rid of my headache” is, “it depends.” It depends on what’s causing your headache. Essential oils work in very specific ways, on very specific things. Chances are good that you’re not going to know exactly what’s causing each and every headache you get.
Even so, here are a few good, all-purpose essential oils that will help with most tension headaches:
When treating a headache use just 1-2 drops of essential oil diluted in a palmful of unscented oil or lotion and apply to neck and base of skull. You may also apply to temples (stay at least 2 inches away from the eyes), forehead, or crown.
